根據柏拉圖的記載，曾經在地中海裡，有一個發展出高度文明，經濟能力也十分強大的島嶼國家－亞特蘭提斯(Atlantis)，然而據說是因為島民的奢侈，遭到了天神的懲罰，一夕之間，亞特蘭提斯沉入了海底，從此消失於世界文明的舞台上。

　　二十世紀初，一位懷抱著夢想的語言學家Milo(邁羅)，深信著Atlantis這個傳說的存在，率領著一組探險隊尋找傳說中失落的帝國。他們找到了在海底這個存在的帝國，然而探險隊一行人卻各懷鬼胎，一場亞特蘭提斯的保衛戰就此展開...。

　　這次失落的帝國是迪士尼突破傳統以音樂為主的動畫電影(開啟了迪士尼到冰雪奇緣之前的失落年代？)，改以劇情取勝，因此在音樂的表現上感覺沒有以往突出，不過整體來說還是有一定的水準。
